This is a small house designed in the spirit of the work of Samuel Hurst-Seager to be built on a steep site high on Mount Pleasant in Christchurch. It is intended to be as energy efficient as practicable with minimum embodied energy and careful consideration of the lifecycle of its components, while being as easy to live in and as cute as reasonably practicable. It is intended to be built in mid-2021.

A perspective sketch of an Arts and Crafts style bungalow on a steep hillside seen from above, with a corner verandah, hooded windows and a leadlight bay window facing a small terrace lawn.

The cottage as seen from the path to the entrance.

Floor plan of the cottage showing two bedrooms at the south end (the larger facing east and having a bay window and window seat), a living space with fire and window seats, a large verandah at the northeast corner of the house and a dining table with built-in seating under a bay window, overlooking a small lawn terrace also to the north.

Floor plan.

Cross section of the cottage, showing simple wood-lined interior, coved ceilings, terracotta tile roof, cantilevered bay window and a pole frame subfloor to account for the steep slope.
